WELFARE

During 2007 we raised and spent some £12,000 on welfare projects within the local community of Stoke on Trent. A further £3,000 was used in furtherance of international welfare projects.

In 2007 we supported many local organisations, including: the Staffordshire Air Ambulance, the Grocott Day Centre for the disabled, Gingerbread, Arch, Karate Clubs, Boys Brigade, Scouts, Guides, Special Olympics group, Donna Louise Trust, Trentham Outrigger Club, Lions Youth Brass, and various pensioners' clubs.

Much assistance has been given to individuals who are blind, partially sighted, or who suffer from physical or medical conditions which result in poor mobility. Typically in this area would be the provision of specialised wheel chairs, specialised push chairs and specialised reading equipment.

Additionally we have sponsored young people to go to Africa to assist in areas of deprivation - helping in and rebuilding schools in villages and townships. This not only helps the deprived but also helps in the development of the young people sponsored.

As an international organisation we do not forget our international obligations. We have raised substantial funds for use in reconstruction after the Asian Tsunami, for the Pakistan Earthquake Appeal and for the Hurricane Katrina appeal. Most of our international funding has been done via. our international foundation, the Lions Clubs International Foundation. The LCIF funds and oversees projects, with the local management done by the local lions club. By this means the projects are able to commence without delay and the risk of siphoning off of funds by local government officials is avoided.
